Final Fantasy VII G-Bike Game to End Service on December 15

iOS/Android smartphone game ending due to difficulty in maintaining user satisfaction



Square Enix announced on Monday that it will end service on its smartphone game Final Fantasy VII G-Bike on December 15 at 11:59 p.m. The company cited the difficulty of offering a service that would satisfy users. In-game events that have run in the past will continue to run from mid-September until December 15. However, the sale of Gems will end on October 13 at 1:00 p.m.

After a one-day delay, Square Enix launched the game for iOS and Android devices in Japan on October 30, 2014. The game had yet to be released in North America and Europe.

During the "Final Fantasy VII G-Bike & Final Fantasy World+Wide Words Creator Talk Event" last September withSquare Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto, CyberConnect2 President and CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama said, "If G-Bike is released and becomes a hit, let's make a Final Fantasy VII[remake]." Square Enix did announce a Final Fantasy VII remake for PlayStation 4 with the return of director Tetsuya Nomura and writer Kazushige Nojima.
